ABOUT

IRONSTONE

RIDGE

The land that Ironstone Ridge is built one is rare as it is part of the tightly held Marananga sub-region of the

Barossa Valley.

Millions of years ago, the soils within the Marananga sub-region were submerged under the ocean. Due to this, many sedimentary deposits - through the weathering action of air and water - produced iron oxides that conglomerated into ironstone ridges. Now, deposits are visible on many ridgelines and hillsides.

This was the beginning of

Ironstone Ridge.

LUKE EDWARDS

Luke 's family history in the wine industry dates back to the 1800s, when his four times great grandfather, George North - born as Georgios Tramountanas - immigrated from Lemnos to South Australia, George is believed to be the first Greek settler in South Australia, he brought with not only a knowledge of ship building but also an understanding of tending wine and olive groves. It was since George found employment at a winery in 1858, in the newly gazetted township of Clarendon, that Luke's family has maintained a strong connection with the land and what it provides for us.

Luke himself realised his talents and passions lied in viticulture and winemaking at a young age. In the late 1990s, he undertook his studies in Viticulture and Oncology. After many vintages passed, journeys travelled, and wines consumed, he finally acquired the land that we now call Ironstone Ridge.
